Summary

The Pfaffinger lab research focus is understanding the regulation of ion channels and their role in native neurons. Our work is ultimately tied to our interest in developing a better understanding of how the nervous system functions and the roles that ion channels and ion channel auxiliary subunits play in normal and abnormal function of the nervous system. We are looking for a motivated, organized, and Research Associate to join a research team investigating fundamental principles that regulate neuronal excitability and how their disruption leads to abnormal brain function. The ideal candidate should be detail oriented and strong organizational skills.

Job Duties

• Plan, oversee, and execute research experiments including molecular cloning and expression studies
• Manage and work with engineered mouse colony for targeted gene expression experiments
• Perform, analyze, and interpret the results of genetic manipulations
• Maintain the functionality of the laboratory including inventory control and resource management and maintaining careful research notes
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily operations of the laboratory including the inventory control, supplies and pharmaceuticals
• Develop experimental protocols and techniques
• Ensure laboratory compliance with all relevant regulations
• Document results of experiments and reports to principal investigator
• Conduct thorough literature reviews and synthesizes pertinent information to support research objectives
• Assist in maintaining the common resources for the four labs that work together on the 6th floor
• Supervise a junior technician and help train students rotating in the lab to perform the basic experiments that we run in the lab
• Performs other job related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field.  Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
• Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD
• Should have excellent organizational and communication skills, the ability to work independently, collaboratively, and cooperatively without constant supervision, and a passion for neuroscience research.
• Molecular cloning experience.
• Understand the fundamentals of mouse colony management.
• Have the ability to learn new techniques and work carefully with sensitive laboratory equipment.
