Job Description

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Oertel, within an internationally well-known group of liver researchers in the Dept. of Pathology, University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Oertel is also faculty member of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine and member of the Pittsburgh Liver Research Center (PLRC). Our laboratory has long-term experience with stem cells and liver cell transplantation and has made important contributions to regenerative medicine. The goal is to develop successful cell-based therapies for cirrhosis and other chronic liver diseases. Our active research also focuses on mechanisms regulating senescence, an important component of liver injury and cirrhosis.

The applicant must possess a PhD and should have a strong background in molecular and stem cell biology. Applicants with a background in liver research are preferred. We are looking for a successful candidate with good analytical and interpersonal skills, who can work independently. Expertise in molecular and cell biology techniques is required. Experience with cell culture, cell isolation, immunohistochemistry, and animal studies including surgical techniques, is desirable.
