Job Description

The Grant Management Office (GMO) team partners with faculty, various Moffitt Research Institute (MRI) departments, and MRI leadership to facilitate the management and allocation of a diverse research funding portfolio to support the science being conducted in both the lab and clinical trials. In addition, the office is responsible for ensuring compliance is being met according to sponsor and Institutional guidelines. The Research Fiscal & Business Program Administrator is a senior professional that performs analysis, project management, and financial forecasting in support of MRI operations and programs. The primary responsibilities of this role are to manage MRI’s State Appropriation funds and NIH P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG). As other programmatic needs arise, this role will spearhead these initiatives.

  • Experience with project management is a plus
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel is a must

 

Responsibilities:

Manage MRI’s State Appropriation funds

  • Prepares financial reports to consolidate and properly depict spending activity – works with Senior Director of Research Business Office to communicate status of funding and advise on effective utilization strategies at leadership meetings.
  • Forecasts projections (with leadership input) and perform analysis of potential allowable operational expenses.
  • Develops effective strategies to operationalize proper utilization of funds, as it aligns with State guidance.
  • Recommends appropriate accounting controls to be implemented and develops fiscal procedures for the overall management of the funding portfolio.
  • Assists leadership with overall annual budget development.
  • Collaborates with central offices, Office of Sponsored Research and Research Finance, to ensure proper allocation of funds, determine allowability of expenses, address annual close-out requirements, and maintain overall compliance with State guidelines. Also collaborates with Research Financial Analysts to monitor spending on dollars allocated to Principal Investigators.

Manage Moffitt’s NIH P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG)

  • Work with leadership and CCSG Administration team to develop budget for grant submission.
  • Perform financial analysis and forecasting on multi-component award to advise on fiscally responsible budget utilization.
  • Develops forward thinking forecasts based on historical spending trends, future planned spending, and overall funding portfolio.
  • Reconcile actual spending against approved budget, rebudgeting as necessary and allowed throughout the grant cycle.
  • Facilitate administration of CCSG-funded portion of pilot projects/intramural awards and advise on appropriate mechanisms to utilize for awards.
  • Collaborate with Research Finance to address grant close-out items.
  • Manages faculty and staff effort appointments by factoring in leadership and CCSG Administration team recommendations, budget projects, and award specific effort requirements. Ensures alignment with OMB Circular A122 and National Institutes of Health (NIH) salary cap guidelines.

 

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or relevant field is required with at least 5 years of financial (i.e., forecasting, budgeting, analysis, etc.) experience, including at least 2 years of extramural funding (i.e., NIH, State of Florida, Foundation, etc.) management experience.
    • Preferred: At least 3 years of extramural funding (i.e., NIH, State of Florida, Foundation, etc.) management experience.
