Billing Specialist

Position Overview:

To ensure timely and accurate submission of electronic claim files and manage daily external errors, provide weekly reporting to management, and facilitate resolution of claim errors with clearinghouse and Epic analysts.

As a successful Candidate, you will:

  • Work in collaboration with other billers to resolve external errors for all payors and provide feedback to all of us on the findings (example: errors that should be turned off)
  • Analyze edits to determine if the edits should be
    • Built in Epic router, charge, claim, or registration/insurance edits
    • Identify department where edits should be routed (biller vs coder)
    • Turned off in Change HC in collaboration with Foundation IS staff to resolve
  • Collaborate with Leads/mangers in other departments regarding edits to explain and understand implications/impact to work flow and/or revenue
  • Participate in the weekly Change Healthcare Calls
  • Provide a weekly summary of claim volumes in Change HC and Hold weekly/biweekly/monthly (based on volumes)
  • Lead discussion with management and leads (prior to Fridays call) with change Health to provide an agenda
  • Reconcile the paper claims, report any errors to the Leads/manager and accept the run. Forward claims to the correspondence team to mail/distribute reporting
  • Resolves daily claim edits and errors within 24-48 hours from the claim creation date.
  • Identifies error trends and collaborates with management and system analyst to create edits/system rules to prevent delays in revenue
  • Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Your qualifications should include:

  • High School Diploma
  • Three (3) years of experience in a hospital, medical group or Independent Practice Associations (IPA) with specific knowledge of medical EOBs/ERAs/RADs
