Under the supervision of Dr. Heather McGee, the Research Associate II will contribute to research projects focused on studying the immune response to radiation. Dr. McGee’s research is currently supported by an NIH R00 grant from the National Cancer Institute, the AACR-Debbie’s Dream Award for Gastric Cancer Research, the City of Hope Chancellor’s Award and a start-up package from City of Hope. Research findings from Dr. McGee and colleagues have been published in Nature, Nature Communications, Clinical Cancer Research, Journal of Immunology, Journal for Immunotherapy of Cancer, International Journal of Radiation Oncology* Biology* and Physics, and numerous other journals.
As a successful candidate, you will:
· Serve as lab manager, responsible for ordering supplies/maintaining inventories of supplies, updating the lab’s IACUC, IBC and other protocols, and genotyping mice/ maintaining the lab’s mouse colony.
· Assist other scientists in the lab with a variety of research experiments, including culturing and irradiating tumor cell lines, performing molecular biology assays, performing in vivo murine experiments, harvesting murine tumors and isolating immune cells, and using FACS to characterize immune cell populations.
· Be responsible for analyzing data using Flow Jo, ImageJ and Prism software, as well as compiling results and preparing presentations for lab meetings.
· Utilize established protocols to perform a variety of in vitro experiments (in cancer cell lines) and in vivo experiments (in murine tumor models) under the guidance of senior scientists in the lab.
· Update IACUC, IBC and IRB protocols for the lab.
· Update laboratory experimental protocols for the lab.
· Genotype mice and help maintain the lab’s mouse colonies.
· Bachelor’s degree. Masters degree preferred
· 2+ years of related research/laboratory experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 1+ year related research/laboratory experience with a Master’s degree.
· Experience with flow cytometry and tumor immunology is preferred.
· Experience with cell culture and murine tumor models is preferred.
