Job Description

Summary

A successful Registered Nurse I (RNI ) in Otolaryngology will positively contribute to our patient's experience by providing compassionate care, and functioning as a clinical resource and reliable member of the team.  The RN I is responsible for prioritizing care appropriately and maintaining  professional patient and faculty relationships at all times.  The RN I will also need to demonstrate high-level written and verbal communication skills to assist with care coordination and clinical efficiency.  Experience in a surgical specialty or desire to work in a dynamic, fast paced academic setting is preferred.

 

The RN I should be capable of contributing to department/service line growth by providing regular feedback and suggestions for improvement.  They will have an opportunity to create social media content and participate in community outreach and networking to expand referral base.  The RN I may also be asked to serve on college-wide committees or work groups.

Job Duties

  • Communicates with Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center staff to schedule surgery, imaging, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Effectively obtains appropriate pre and post surgical pictures of patients for planning and publication or social media purposes.
  • Responds promptly to patient's calls, MyChart messages, and refills requests per Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) policy and to build trust with patients and ensures appropriate follow-up care.
  • Serves as a resource for clinical and administrative staff to assist with patient care, across sub-specialties.
  • Contributes on a daily basis to clinical efficiency and maintain quality standards to comply with protocols set by BCM Quality Nursing.
  • Along with clinical team, contributes to endoscope and instrument high-level disinfection and sterilization as needed.
  • Provides Registered Nurse triage as needed on "Live Answer" calls from patients, hospital representatives, or referring physicians requesting inpatient consultation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • No experience required.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous leadership or experience in customer service.
