Job Description

Summary

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care is searching for a Laboratory Manager to manage and direct a lab space dedicated to basic research in illnesses and disease processes relating to the pediatric population. This lab manager will collaborate with PI's and other faculty and research staff to further the research mission for the division. This manager will run the science program, be a co-investigator on grants, run experiments and monitor all functions of the lab.

Job Duties

  • Plans and organizes the administrative operations of the laboratory.
  • Coordinates the procurement of equipment and supplies, managing all stages of the acquisition cycle and raw materials release process.
  • Establishes and manages procedures for use of laboratory equipment including installation and qualification (if applicable), maintenance, repair and inventory, as well as research technicians.
  • Works with Baylor/TCH facilities staff for internal (facilities) repairs and maintenance.
  • Manages and maintains laboratory sections of the web site, laboratory database, and other equivalent platforms for private lab and public access.
  • Coordinates and oversees the networking of internal laboratory computers.
  • Conduct initial training for new laboratory staff, students, and interns.
  • Assist in the management and updates of the laboratory manuals and standard operating procedures.
  • Partners with division leadership in the development of departmental grant budgets, the overseeing of expenditures of grant monies, performing accounting functions and producing expenditure reports as needed.
  • Serves as the compliance officer by interpreting rules, regulations, and policies for faculty and laboratory staff and ensures compliance.
  • Performs personnel management functions and supervision of technical staff including the direct supervision of lab staff. 
  • Conduct research with faculty, principal investigators, and laboratory staff as needed and as opportunities are available.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  •  Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.
