Our Transplant Center is looking to add a Donor Procurement Coordinator to their dedicated team of caregivers. This is an extremely valuable role with the opportunity to directly impact the lives of others through the facilitation of organ recovery and transplant. Your duties will include but are not limited to:  

Coordinating all activities related to the receipt of organ offers for transplant, evaluation of organ offers for suitability, procurement of organs and set-up of transplants.  

• Compiling with OPTN/UNOS requirements for post-transplant documentation of donor and transplant activities. 

• Collecting information on patients to present to our Physicians.  

• Working for a prolonged period of time on the phone and computer.

• Is detail-oriented and works well on a team. 

Is a Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist or Emergency Medical Technician.  


This role gives you the opportunity to work from home and allows you to expand your knowledge. It is required that you live within an hour of Cleveland in case of an emergent need requiring you to come to the office. This is a fast-paced and exciting position to work 3 to 4 12-hour shifts, rotating days/nights, 7:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as contact for all potential offers for transplant from local, regional and national organ procurement organizations.
  • Organizes procurement team and dispatch team to donor site within required time frame and coordinates air or ground transportation of organs.
  • Serves as resource for organ recovery and preservation; assists in training of organ preservation employees.
  • Ensures compliance with OPTN/UNOS requirements.
  • Orients new residents and fellows to renal procurement, renal allocation and regulatory requirements.
  • Develops and presents professional education programs as needed.
  • Obtains, analyzes and reports pertinent data regarding potential donors and accepted organs for transplants.
  • Attends selection committee meetings.
  • Abstracts data and enter data in transplant database.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science related field or degree or diploma from an accredited nursing school, registered respiratory therapist, or paramedic.

Certifications:

  • Maintain valid licenses and required certificates (Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist or Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic).
  • Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) by the American Board for Transplant Certification (ABTC) preferred.

Complexity of Work:

  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum three years’ experience as an organ procurement coordinator or clinical experience in critical care or in the field of organ procurement or transplant.

Physical Requirements:

  • Clinical, Exposure to Risk. Ability to be available 24 hours a day when assigned.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
