Job Description

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Creates a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals.
Provides psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication evaluations and follow-ups.
Assists with crisis/urgent referrals and supports transitions to higher levels of care.
Provides emergency clinical coverage when needed, as well as rotations in the after-hours on call system (backup to ProtoCall).
Consults with psychiatrists and other prescribers on high-complexity cases.
Participates in care coordination with therapists, primary care, and other JH resources.
Serves as preceptor for nurse practitioner trainees, as appropriate.
Participates in and contributes to committees, case consultation and other required staff activities.
Exercises independent medical judgment consistent with approved, evidence-based methods according to specialty and in the best interest of patients.
Demonstrates commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in clinical work and all professional activities.
Other duties as assigned.


Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Experience working with diverse populations is strongly preferred. Examples include members of the LGBTQ+ community, communities of color, historically under-served or marginalized populations, individuals on the Autism spectrum or identifying as neurodivergent, a range of gender identities, and international students/learners.
Clinical experience in the outpatient setting within a university is preferred, with a focus on treating issues prevalent within student/learner population is strongly preferred. Examples include anxiety, mood disorders, disordered eating, co-occurring substance use disorders, sleep disorders, and ADHD.
Commitment to actively engage in practice with diverse populations, and to one’s own ongoing development of multicultural competence as a professional.

Must possess the ability to function independently within scope of practice; general supervision and clinical consultation will be provided.


Additional Information

Credentialing to be completed prior to start date.
Full-time staff are eligible for a competitive benefits package including 403(b) retirement contributions, tuition assistance (employee and dependents).
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week (not including lunch breaks). Clinics are open Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.; some after-hours and weekend work is expected based on the programmatic needs of the University during the academic year (e.g. orientation, special events, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
PMHNP board certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
Licensed as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) by the Maryland Board of Nursing with active and unrestricted DEA license and CDS registration.
Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a PMHNP.
