Job Description

The Department of Johns Hopkins of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine is seeking a CO Nurse Practitioner at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Blaustein Pain Treatment Center to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment to evaluate and manage adult patients with acute and chronic pain complaints in accordance with established policies.

The Pain Division of ACCM serves patients in the outpatient and inpatient settings across multiple JHM locations. This position will act as the primary provider of patient consults, follow ups, and may round on patients daily during the daytime hours Monday through Friday.



Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Conducts comprehensive and/or episodic health assessments of patients with acute and chronic pain.
Records and documents assessment data necessary to maintain, coordinate, and/or expedite required services.
Perform history and physical exams, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings; identify differential diagnosis.


Establishes a Plan of Care including

Order appropriate lab, radiographic and other studies.
Appropriately interpret results of lab, radiographic, and other studies.
Performs tests and procedures as indicated within scope of practice.
Establish a plan of care related to patients identified problems, including medication and therapeutic procedures.
Consult with other team members regarding proposed treatment guidelines as necessary.


Implements Plan of Care in safe and effective manner.

Prescribe and regulate medications and performs other related procedures per Nurse Practitioner-Physician written agreement.
Record patient visit/interaction in concise clear logical and timely manner.
Arrange referrals to appropriate specialties when needed.
Triage and respond to patient telephone calls, messages, prior authorizations and interactions appropriately.


Organizes workload to meet patient and organizational needs.

Utilize time management to see patients in an efficient manner as identified by departmental goals.
Maintain consistent level of productivity. Identifies problems that impede overall functioning and initiates appropriate interventions.
Work collaboratively with the health team members to facilitate smooth operations of the unit.


Communicates with healthcare team members to assure patient and organizational needs are met.

Supervise activities of team members as appropriate.
Identify areas of weakness in operational systems and makes recommendations for improvements.
Communicate significant information in an organized, logical, and concise manner to co-workers.
Provide constructive feedback as it relates to performance in an appropriate manner.
Adheres to the confidentiality policy as outlined in the interdisciplinary Clinical Practice Manual.
Make recommendations to Administrative leadership related to Clinic administrative operations.


Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Nursing, Registered Nurse license, and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner.
Must be licensed as an NP in the State of Maryland or other states where practicing.
Current CPR / ACLS certification required.
