Position Summary:

The Sr Oncology Nurse Navigator will provide care in the City of Hope COMPASS (Cancer Outreach through Mobile Prevention And Screening Services) clinics in Southern California. COMPASS is a novel, interprofessional mobile ambulatory care program that aims to improve comprehensive cancer prevention and early detection across numerous Southern California communities, mostly in asymptomatic community members. The program provides patient navigation from screening through definitive diagnosis and into treatment as necessary. COMPASS is funded through City of Hope, various grants, and generous philanthropic donations. This position will work from the City of Hope administration office in Irwindale, CA and will support our mobile clinics, by speaking with patients before and after their visits to ensure that they understand their results and what follow-up is needed.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls
  • Telephone prescription requests to pharmacy or utilizes electronic transmission of prescriptions in EMR
  • Disposes of contaminated items according to OSHA, CLIA and COLA regulations
  • Follows all OSHA guidelines to minimize exposure to blood borne pathogens
  • Communicates physician referral requests to staff via EMR for necessary processing
  • Ensures proper insurance authorization prior to treatment
  • Performs patient education when appropriate
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations
  • Follows established policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental and infection control guidelines
  • Arranges for all biohazardous waste pick-up
  • Attends annual CPR,and COLA training programs
  • Adheres to all documentation guidelines as instructed by Practice Administrator and Clinical Director and provides accurate documentation in the patient’s electronic medical record
  • Performs all other tasks and projects assigned by the Clinical Director, Practice Administrator or the physician
  • Utilizes leadership skills in overseeing and assisting other members of the health care team to prioritize and resolve issues
  • Supports patients who have positive screening findings to understand next steps
  • Updates quality metrics to ensure timely patient follow-up and care
  • Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining patient confidentiality

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Nursing is required
  • Registered Nurse in the state of California
  • Current National certification relevant to area of expertise required within one (1) year of hire
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional nursing experience to include three (3) years of oncology experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $46.44 - $77.56 / hour
