Following Magnet® designation and AORN standards, our Operating Room’s skilled interdisciplinary teams perform complex cancer procedures on both inpatient and outpatient adult populations. The Operating Room at Moffitt offers a challenging and rewarding atmosphere utilizing innovative technology and procedures.

The Moffitt McKinley Hospital (MMH) location expands to feature 19 outfitted robotic operating rooms for providing state of the art surgical services! Our minimally invasive cancer surgery and robotic cancer surgery program is one of the busiest in the state and performs complex surgeries on gastrointestinal, urologic, head and neck, thoracic and endocrine cancers. Our operating room is equipped with the latest radiographic imaging technology for image-guided surgery and radiation equipment for an intraoperative radiotherapy experience. As part of Moffitt Cancer Center’s Perioperative Services, the Operating Room Nursing nurtures our commitment to Patient and Family Centered Care, encouraging family members to participate in patient histories, assessments, education and instructions.  Practicing with a Collaborative Team and Total Care Delivery system, our nurses embrace the concept of Shared Governance.  This empowers them to be involved in the decision-making process, especially those affecting their practice, acknowledging their clinical expertise and fostering quality performance.

 

The Operating Room is predominantly RN staffed. We have a Nurse Educator and a Clinical Nurse Specialist dedicated to the continued clinical development of our Operating Room nursing professionals. In addition, we have two full time Nursing Informatics professionals.

 

 

Position Highlights:

  • An RNFA is an RN who can render direct patient care in the perioperative role by performing as a first assistant to the surgeon. The RNFA practices an expanded perioperative scrub role after acquiring skills, knowledge, and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon, through organize instruction and supervised practice. The RNFA practices under the direct supervision of the surgeon during the first assisting phase of the perioperative role.

The Ideal Candidate

  • The ideal candidate will have the following:
    • 2 years Surgical experience

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the surgeon in performing safe operation with optimal results for the patient
  • Assist with positioning, prepping and draping of the patient or perform these action independently
  • Provide hemostasis, knot tying and suturing techniques
  • Perform intraoperative tissue manipulation by exposing the retracting tissue
  • Assist with completion of procedures by affixing drains and dressings

 

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science of Nursing 
  • Completion of acceptable formal RNFA program along with 120 preceptorships; preceptorship may be completed during employment
  • 2 years of surgical experience
  • Registered Nurse (RN) RN-Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of FL, or a valid Multi-State privilege to practice in FL (must declare FL as primary State of residence within 30 days from date of hire if licensed in another eNLC compact state with multi-state privileges)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • CNOR certification
