Job Description

TGen, the Translational Genomics Research Institute, is a part of City of Hope. We are an Arizona-based, nonprofit medical research institute dedicated to conducting groundbreaking research with life-changing results. We work to unravel the genetic components of common and complex diseases, including cancer, neurological disorders, infectious disease, and rare childhood disorders. This position is for a Research Associate to join the team in the laboratory of Drs Jeffrey Trent and Cristian Tomasetti. We are a fast-paced research lab focused on cancer genomic landscapes, early detection and effective therapeutic intervention in a variety of populations ranging from underserved human communities to naturally occurring canine and chicken cancers.


Under management supervision, this position requires the employee to perform all duties related to experimental execution, basic data analysis, sample tracking, general laboratory responsibilities, maintain a clean lab space, equipment use and maintenance

along with assisting/mentoring colleagues and/or interns. Expectations include maintaining detailed lab notebooks, maintenance spreadsheets and protocols. These procedures allow for a laboratory functioning efficiently producing quality data that will

translate into publications and most importantly advances in the clinic.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in planning experiments, evaluating/interpreting test results, developing conclusions, and devising solutions to problems utilizing detailed knowledge of research laboratory procedures and practices and under the direction of the scientist in charge
  • Effective communication of data and project updates using Microsoft excel,
  • Powerpoint presentations and Google docs.
  • Training of interns or other junior new staff members.
  • Order and organize lab supplies. Organize and maintain lab equipment.
  • Attend meetings, presentations, seminars as needed

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
