College/Department Information

The Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center is the single largest investment in a cybersecurity facility in the nation to date. The $100 million facility will help to fill the current and growing shortage of cybersecurity talent in the state and nation. The Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center represents a unique public/private partnership that includes Augusta University, Augusta Technical College, the University System of Georgia's research institutions, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and other state, federal, and private-sector partners working together to meet this workforce demand and to innovate, train, and strengthen defenses.

The state-of-the-art Center is located in the growing cybersecurity corridor in Augusta, Georgia, that is also home to the U.S. Army Cyber Command and Cyber School of Excellence at Fort Gordon. The Center is located on the downtown campus of Augusta University and houses the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences.

Job Summary

The Cyber Range Engineer 1 collaborates within a team to manage foundational aspects of the physical infrastructure supporting cloud services. Responsibilities encompass hands-on tasks related to data center operations, server hardware configuration, network infrastructure, storage management, hardware monitoring, and documentation, with a strong emphasis on configuration management and automation as integral components.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Data Center Operations: Assist in data center operations, including server installation, configuration, optimization for performance, and ensuring consistency through configuration management and automation.

Network and Troubleshooting: Assist in network architecture design, monitoring, and troubleshooting efforts.

Storage System: Assist in managing storage systems including configurations, optimization for performance, and ensuring consistency through configuration management and automation.

Monitoring Solutions: Assist in implementing monitoring solutions for infrastructure components, responding to alerts, and resolving issues.

Documentation: Collaboratively maintain documentation for infrastructure configurations, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records through automated documentation tools.

Others: Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic hands-on experience with server hardware, network devices, and data center operations. Familiarity with basic configuration management and automation concepts.

Opensource contributions, Python Programming, Configuration Management, Infrastructure as Code

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE
Basic understanding of major cloud service providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure components such has virtual machines, containers, storage, networking, and security services
Introduction to SDN (Software-Defined Networking) principles
Exposure to basic concepts of IaC tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation
Understanding of the importance of automating infrastructure deployment
Basic knowledge of virtualization technologies like VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM

SKILLS
Basic proficiency in networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, firewalls, and load balancing

ABILITIES
Awareness of containerization platforms like Docker and Kubernetes

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Grade: 16

Salary: Minimum $41,846/ annual - Midpoint $56,492/ annual

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum midpoint) of the position.
