The Department of Radiology at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University is seeking a highly qualified and motivated faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, to join our team as a Nuclear Medicine Faculty member. This position offers an outstanding opportunity to contribute to clinical service, education, and research in a dynamic academic medical environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine services, participating in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows, and engaging in scholarly activities. Expertise in general nuclear medicine, PET/CT imaging, and radionuclide therapy is essential. Candidates with a strong track record or interest in research are encouraged to apply. This role includes active involvement in multidisciplinary collaborations and tumor boards, with access to state-of-the-art imaging and research facilities. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Interpret and report diagnostic nuclear medicine studies, including PET/CT, SPECT/CT, and planar imaging.
  • Perform and supervise therapeutic procedures such as radioactive iodine therapy, peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT), and bone pain palliation.
  • Participate in and support multidisciplinary clinical services and tumor boards.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards

Educational Responsibilities:
  • Teach nuclear medicine and molecular imaging principles to medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Participate in curriculum development and assessment for radiology and/or nuclear medicine training programs.
  • Supervise and mentor trainees during clinical rotations.

Research Responsibilities:
  • Conduct and publish clinical, translational, or basic science research in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging.
  • Collaborate on institutional and multi-institutional research studies.
  • Apply for and manage grant funding when applicable.
  • Contribute to academic conferences, presentations, and scholarly activities.

Administrative and Service Responsibilities:
  • Participate in departmental and institutional committees.
  • Assist in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to equipment selection, protocol development, and optimization of imaging workflows.
  • Support accreditation efforts (e.g., ACR, IAC).

Required Qualifications
MD/ DO or equivalent degree from an accredited institution. Board certification or eligibility in Nuclear Medicine (e.g., through the American Board of Nuclear Medicine or equivalent body). Valid medical license (or eligibility for licensure) in Georgia. Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Nuclear Medicine or a related specialty (such as Radiology with Nuclear Medicine fellowship training). Fellowship training in Nuclear Medicine or a subspecialty area (e.g., PET/CT, theranostics).
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class.
