Aquarium Curator – Seymour Marine Discovery Center, UC Santa Cruz

Location: Santa Cruz, California | Appointment: Full-time, Career | Salary: $33.01–$42.66/hour

Join a team dedicated to inspiring ocean conservation and connecting people with cutting-edge marine science. The Seymour Marine Discovery Center (SMDC) at UC Santa Cruz is seeking an Aquarium Curator to lead the care, curation, and interpretation of our live animal exhibits on the beautiful Coastal Science Campus overlooking Monterey Bay.

The Aquarium Curator is responsible for maintaining high standards of animal care and exhibit excellence. You’ll oversee husbandry operations, design and maintain aquarium systems, ensure regulatory compliance, and contribute to the development of engaging, research-informed exhibits that tell the story of our coastal ecosystems. The role also includes supervising student assistants and mentoring volunteers and interns who support aquarium operations.

We’re looking for someone with:

• A background in marine biology, aquarium science, or related fields.
• Experience in aquatic animal care, life support systems, and exhibit development.
• Strong communication and leadership skills to train, motivate, and inspire others.
• A collaborative spirit and passion for sharing marine science with diverse audiences.
