Job Description
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or closely related field. Experience in experimental wet laboratory research activities and laboratory math.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or closely related field. Experience with prokaryotic cell culture. Experience with protein analysis using UV-Visible spectroscopy and SDS-PAGE. Experience with chromatography, FPLC and HPLC. Experience with fluorescence microscopy.
Brief Description of Duties:
The applicant will work to support ongoing research in the laboratory of Dr. Mark Bowen in the Department of Physiology & Biophysics. Research in Bowen lab is investigating the molecular mechanism of cellular entry by Botox and working to reconstitute the molecular organization of neuronal communication. Within defined laboratory protocols, the applicant will operate scientific equipment (e.g. shaking incubator, centrifuge, spectrophotometer, & FPLC), prepare and characterize research samples, as well as collect data and report results.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational and time-management skills and exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
Duties:
Preparing and characterizing research samples; providing technical laboratory support.
Collecting and analyzing data; preparing reports and presentations for review.
Staying current in the field by reading literature and discussing experimental results with the PI.
Other duties as assigned.
