Job Description
FUNCTIONS: The individual in this position reports to the Chair of the Department of Pharmacy: Clinical and Administrative Sciences and is expected to support the tripartite mission of teaching, service and research/scholarly activity. In conjunction with the Office of Experiential Education this position contributes to the design, assessment and management efforts for aspects of acute care experiences at the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy based in Oklahoma City. This position is interactive with students, preceptors, and college faculty members according to functions delineated by the Director of Experiential Education, working in a system requiring teamwork and excellent communication skills. This position serves as a model practitioner in support of clinical pharmacy service needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited school or college of pharmacy
2. A valid and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in Oklahoma and an Oklahoma preceptor license.
3. PGY1 and PGY2 training in appropriate areas of pharmacy practice
DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS: Excellent written, verbal, and computer skills; a strong working knowledge of pharmacy practice, as well as state and federal pharmacy laws, rules and regulations; and the ability to interact with pharmacists and healthcare team members in acute care practice settings are required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Board certification in respective practice area(s)
2. At least 36 months of pharmacy practice experience (inclusive of residency training)
3. Post-graduate degree(s) in applicable area
4. Diverse pharmacy practice experiences including acute care practice
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. (30%) The individual will be expected to lead the design, implementation, and coordination of required introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences in hospital practice. Functions will involve quality assurance related to preceptors and students involved in experiential education activities. The evaluation process will require communication with and periodic travel to practice sites within and outside the Oklahoma City metro area. The individual will also be committed to developing high quality practice sites as well as assisting in the development of preceptors capable of providing quality student learning. This individual will be expected to participate in the development and administration of examinations as required for core acute care rotation experiences.
2. (30-40%) The individual will support high-quality acute care clinical pharmacy services and contribute to precepting pharmacy students and/or pharmacy residents as assigned.
3. (10-20%) This individual will be required to participate in scholarly activities that lead to the generation and dissemination of new knowledge.
4. (10-20%) The individual will be expected to teach and evaluate students in didactic and laboratory skills courses.
5. (< 5%) Assignment to service activities (e.g. committees, special projects) for the college.
