Job Description

Summary

A Laboratory Helper position is available in Dr. Graham Erwin's laboratory in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine. Our lab investigates the functional role of repetitive DNA sequences in human health and disease, including Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD). The Laboratory Helper will support ongoing research by maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment, preparing reagents and solutions, and assisting with routine laboratory tasks. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, reliable, and interested in gaining experience in a biomedical research setting.

Job Duties

  • Wash, sterilize, and redistribute laboratory glassware and equipment used in cell culture and molecular biology experiments.
  • Operate and maintain the autoclave and laboratory dishwasher to ensure proper sterilization of materials.
  • Prepare standard solutions, buffers, and simple culture media used in cell culture and molecular biology workflows, including media for iPSC and corneal endothelial cell culture.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory workspaces including benchtops, sinks, fume hoods, and shared equipment areas.
  • Assist with organizing and restocking laboratory supplies and consumables.
  • Assist with receiving and organizing laboratory supply orders.
  • Help maintain inventory records for commonly used reagents and consumables.
  • Support laboratory safety compliance by ensuring proper disposal of waste materials according to institutional guideline
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • No experience required.

Work Authorization Requirement:
