AsMonitorTechnician, you willset up,performandmonitorEEG testsfor patients within theEpilepsyUnit.This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experienceusingsome of the latest and modern technologies.While helping patients feel at ease throughout treatment, you can alsobenefitfrom the wealth of professional and educational development resources offered to caregivers by Cleveland Clinic.

A caregiver in this position variable hours averaging 40 hours per week working nights between 7:00pm and 7:30am.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Monitor electrophysiological data on patients in special recording rooms and at other locations using closed circuit audio/visual equipment,electrophysiological recording instruments,surface recordingelectrodesandelectrophysiologicalrecording instruments.
  • Perform long-term monitoring of adult and pediatric patients using closed circuit and digital audio/visual equipmentandelectro physiological recording instruments while interacting with patients.
  • Perform all functions ofaRegistered EEG Technologist,including assisting physicians in the reading and interpretation of EEG and clinical seizures.
  • Perform record keeping duties using the computer,maintaindaily logs ofpatientstatusand reportinformationto co-workers.
  • Compile and forward billing information to the work leader or supervisor.
  • Set-up for recording and stimulation of monitoring electrodes and care for patients with invasive electrodes andassistswith head dressing changes for invasive monitored patients.
  • Assistwith "SpectScans” andphysicians in research studies,protocolsand documentation.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Associate’sDegreeinElectroneurodiagnosticsor a related patient care field
  • Registered EEG Technologist (R.EEG.T)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)Certification through the American HeartAssociation(AHA)or American Red Cross
  • One year of recent experience in epilepsy long-term monitoring
  • Knowledge of all areas of general EEG testing and instrumentation
  • Demonstrated competency of long-term epilepsy monitoring techniques and interventions

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity in order to place electrodes precisely and to operate recording equipment.
  • Ability to push and maneuver EEG machine weighing 320 pounds.
  • Requires normal or corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease and body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $25.13

Maximum hourly: $38.33

A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education.
