Job Description

The Radiology Department Assistant Supervisor (RDA Supervisor) will work as part of a team and under the overall guidance of the Radiology Manager to ensure the highest standard of service to patients, consultants and visitors. The RDA Supervisor may be assigned to work in a variety of imaging locations across CCL, assist other imaging modalities and/or clinical services. The post holder assists with procedures on adult and geriatric patients and performs patient assessment within the scope of practice. The RDA Supervisor works collaboratively with CCL Radiologists and modality lead radiographers to prioritise and organise schedules. The RDA Supervisor is responsible for coordinating patient scheduling and daily work assignments, and serves as a site specific point of contact for the Radiology Department Assistants in the Imaging department. The RDA Supervisor actively participates in the training of other Radiology Department Assistants.

Job Responsibilities

Operational

  • Assist in develops and maintains staff schedules.
  • Keeps staff informed of changes and address scheduling issues that arise.
  • Coordinates and participates in the training of new employees and staff.
  • Provides suggestions and recommendations regarding supplies and equipment
  • Act as a site specific point of contact for the Radiology Department Assistants.
  • Deputise for the RDA Lead and assists the imaging management team in coordinating the training and development of the Radiology Department Assistants.
  • Deputise for the RDA Lead and represent the Radiology Department Assistants at regular imaging lead meetings and disseminate information back to the RDA group.

General

  • Support Radiographers and Radiologists in the course of their work; liaising with patients and secretarial staff; ensure smooth, efficient service to patients and customers
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their relatives or carers throughout their journey
  • Greet patients in a welcoming friendly manner, book patient exams, confirming records of the patient details are accurate and up to date ensuring amendments are made on electronic systems where necessary in real time.
  • Assist patient in preparation and during imaging procedures, helping them to change, preparing rooms, organising patient list
  • Inform patient with accurate exam instructions and seeking answers to any concerns.
  • Preparation of next day work lists and setting up procedure trolleys
  • Assist with ordering of stock, keeping adequate stock levels, and ensuring rooms are ready for use before every session
  • Responsible for entering pre-determined clinical data and such additional, professional observations as may be appropriate onto computer based systems such as the Radiology Information System (RIS)
  • Responsible for the correct care and use of equipment and resources, generally throughout the hospital, but with a particular emphasis on the specialist equipment used in Imaging Services.
  • Provides direct patient care in specialty areas.
  • Must have a flexible approach to working hours, prepared to participate fully in shifts, extended working days and on–call working rotation and schedules as may be required
  • Undertake relevant training and competency assessments, strictly adhering to agreed protocols and procedures
  • Participate in on-going audit activities
  • Adheres to appropriate Health & Safety guidelines and regulations
  • Undertake basic patient observations, recognise a deteriorating patient, and manage immediately and appropriately
  • To be required to carry out duties appropriate to role and grade
  • Display excellent communication skills, act in a professional manner with sensitivity and discretion both in person and on the telephone often communicating with emotional patients or relatives using judgement and experience
  • Train new Caregiver on systems and monitor quality of training in conjunction with senior Caregivers

Education

  • General standard of education to GCSE including English essential

Certifications & Qualifications

  • Qualified Assistant Practitioner desirable
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent desirable
  • Diploma/Certificate in Healthcare Support Services desirable

Competencies (Complexity of Work):

  • Requires dexterity to produce materials on a computer
  • Manage time and resources and prioritise workload according to clinical needs.
  • Build and sustain professional relationships and work as part of the imaging team
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in IT
  • Self-motivated & directed with regard to an increasing level of understanding and knowledge

Work Experience:

  • Previous healthcare experience in Imaging Department
  • RIS/PACS knowledge

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires physical manipulation of objects, fine tools/materials and people; narrow margins for error; accuracy and high degree of precision
  • Requires frequent sitting, standing and walking

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required

Language:

  • Ability to speak and write in English at the equivalent to level of 7 of the International English Language Testing System or the Occupational English Test (OET) at level B
